Thanks to EMS crew members for car ing for our neighbors and friends. Thanks for being at the ready should we gasp for breath, or clutch our chest and go pale, or pull a child from the bottom of a pool. Thank you. If I Could Save Time In A Bottle: The Girl Scouts arc burying a time capsule today at 5 p.m. at Steams Park. Anyone who wishes to con tribute items for the time cap sule can drop them off at the Tryon-Thermal Belt Chamber of Commerce offices in Tryon. What items would you choose to convey to people 200 or 1,000 years from now what life was like in 1992? A computer? An automobile? Nah. Too obvious. A compact disc? A floppy disc? A ruptured disc? The stock pages? A business card? A Social Security check? A man's tie with one of those paintings on it? A Day- (Continued On Back Page) Older Americans Month Proclaimed A Proclamation from North Carolina Gov. James, Martin has designated the month of May, 1992 as Older /American's Month. The theme is North Carolina's greatest resource - Over one million adults 60 years or older. Many events arc scheduled for this month in Senior Centers, Nursing Homes, etc. At the Meeting Place, our senior Center on Carolina Drive in Tryon, an Open House is ongoing with tours of the facil ity. Flower displays from home gardens and wildflowers are a star feature. A Spring Mexican Fiesta is planned for the end of the month with Mexican food being served and decorations carrying out the theme. Tie fund drive for the Meet ing Place and Commission on Aging is now in place with let ters mailed to donors. We urge everyone to make a contribution no matter the amount. Every contribution is appreciated and well-used to supplement the programs for our Older Ameri cans in Polk County. It's comforting to know all the funds donated stay in Polk County to be used for Polk County residents. For answers to any questions about the Senior Center or it's programs, call Margarete Greene at the Meet ing Place, 859-9707.
